9/6/2009 Walsh/Rodgers Reception

Wednesday, 9. September 2009

100_3848100_3837 It’s labor weekend, and it’s a busy one.  On Sunday night we wrapped things up with Megan Walsh and Joe Rodgers wedding reception in style at the Madison Concourse Hotel in downtown Madison.  It was a black tie themed event.  Megan is originally from Wisconsin, but recently moved to Ohio where she met Joe!   Lucky for us, they came back to Wisconsin for the wedding and reception.   What an amazing night!!

Did I mention it was also the “Taste Of Madison” this weekend, wow was it a tough set up, but the night rocked! We knew it would be a tough set up, so we allotted an extra three hours for set up time.

Cocktails and music started at 4:30 pm, they chose rat pack Jazz. We did the BP introductions before dinner, just as they were arriving, and to set the tone for the evening, they came in to “Now that We’ve Found Love” by Heavy D, right out of “Hitch” with Will Smith. It was awesome! Instead of the traditional favors, Joe & Megan opted for a photobooth, where there guests could get their pictures taken all night, and then keep them, and give a strip to Megan & Joe for their album. (We have this option available for your reception for rent, give us a call.)

After two hours of cocktail music and another 2 hours of dinner music, it was onto the dancing. Their first dance was “Steady as You Go” by the Dave Matthews Band. Joe danced with both his mom and his step mom, and Megan danced with her dad. We opened the dance floor and once again, was packed with people from the get go. Here’s a picture of the first open dance if you don’t believe me. We packed the dance floor for most of the rest of the night with songs like, “Yeah” by Usher, “Shout” by Otis Day, The Cha Cha Slide, and The Cupid Shuffle.

Joe and Megan now live in Ohio, and one couple said the dance wouldn’t be complete without playing “Hang on Sloopy” by the McCoy’s (apparently the Ohio State fight song). Everyone on the dance floor was spelling out O-H-I-O during the chorus, it was rowdy, but so much fun!! Joe and Megan’s grandparents who were both celebrating 51 and 57 years of wedded bliss, were recognized during the anniversary dance.

We closed out the night with Bon Jovi’s “Living on a Prayer” and even as the song ended, the entire dance floor was screaming the lyrics at the top of their lungs. Wow What a night! (I guess I should also point out that Megan’s dad mentioned to me at the close of the night, that their party was so good, that the guests at the wedding in the next room crashed their party and came over to theirs because the music rocked, What a compliment!)

Thanks again, your reception was a total treat!

After dinner and the first set of feature dances we kicked off the dancing portion of the reception with the “five year” good luck dance where we brought all of the guests married or unmarried out to dance one song with Megan and Joe, this always packs the floor and sets the tone for the rest of the night.   Don’t believe me, here is the picture from the first dance when we opened up the floor to everyone at 8:15 pm, and the floor stayed packed like this for the rest of the night.

Michael and Lyndsey Burg wed in Hawaii a couple months ago and decided to celebrate that union this weekend at the High Cliff in Sherwood. Matt Peden was their DJ. It was more a party with a wedding theme, they decided to have the traditional first dance ad the father/daughter and mother/son dance, but that was it for tradition.  Michael and Lyndsey’s request list included the Cupid Shuffle, Right Round, Don’t Stop Til You Get Enough, Jump On It and much more.  Guests added Livin on a Prayer, Dont Stop Believing, Thriller and Single Ladies.  We also Sang Happy Birthday to Matt, who then acted as Conductor in our Train (Quad City DJ’s) as it ran through the bar and around the room.  The night ended in Somewhere Over The Rainbow, I Just Wanna Grow Old With You and Finally Hotel Room, by Pitbull.  The entire night was a blast and Michael and Lyndsey and lucky to have such a great group of family and friends.
