Breaking Down Different Components Of a Wedding Ceremony & Songs Needed

Weddings are a joyous occasion that are filled with love, laughter, and of course, music. Music plays a vital role in setting the tone of a wedding ceremony and reception, and can often be the difference between a mediocre wedding and a memorable one. With that being said, choosing the right songs for each part of the wedding ceremony can be a daunting task. In this blog post, we will be breaking down the different parts of a wedding ceremony and the songs that are needed for each.

Pre-Ceremony/Prelude

The Pre-ceremony, also called the Prelude is the time leading up to you ceremony when your guests arrive and are being seated.   Our DJs play about 30 minutes of pre-ceremony or prelude music to set the vibe or tone for your wedding ceremony and add some nice ambience.   Aim for about 7-8 songs during this time.   Instrumental Covers work really well, with artists like the Vitamin String Quartet and The Piano Guys work really well as they play instrumental modern covers.

Processional

The processional is the first part of the wedding ceremony where the bridal party makes their entrance. This is the moment where all eyes are on the bride as she walks down the aisle towards her soon-to-be husband. The processional song should be a slow, romantic tune that sets the tone for the rest of the ceremony. Some popular choices for the processional song include Canon in D by Johann Pachelbel, A Thousand Years by Christina Perri, and At Last by Etta James.

Bridal Entrance

The bridal entrance is the most highly anticipated moment of the wedding ceremony. It is the moment where the bride makes her grand entrance and takes her place beside her groom. The bridal entrance song should be a powerful, upbeat song that captures the energy and excitement of the moment. Some popular choices for the bridal entrance song include Here Comes the Sun by The Beatles, Marry Me by Train, and You Are the Best Thing by Ray LaMontagne.

Unity Ceremony

The unity ceremony is a symbolic moment in the wedding ceremony where the couple comes together to demonstrate their love and commitment to each other. This can include a unity candle lighting, sand ceremony, or any other unique ceremony that the couple chooses to include. The unity ceremony song should be a meaningful, emotional song that represents the love and commitment shared between the couple. Some popular choices for the unity ceremony song include I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing by Aerosmith, Perfect by Ed Sheeran, and The Power of Love by Celine Dion.

Recessional

The recessional is the final part of the wedding ceremony where the newlyweds exit the ceremony together as a married couple. This is the moment where the celebration truly begins and the energy in the room is at an all-time high. The recessional song should be an upbeat, celebratory song that captures the excitement of the moment. Some popular choices for the recessional song include Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours) by Stevie Wonder, You Make My Dreams by Hall & Oates, and I Gotta Feeling by The Black Eyed Peas.

Choosing the right songs for each part of the wedding ceremony is crucial in creating a memorable and meaningful experience for both the couple and their guests. The processional, bridal entrance, unity ceremony, and recessional each require a different type of song that captures the emotion and energy of the moment. By selecting the right songs, the wedding ceremony can be transformed into a magical and unforgettable experience that will be cherished for years to come.   Use your Entertainment DJ/MC as a resource to help you find and cultivate the perfect wedding mix for your ceremony.
